Why get an online MHA degree?

There are many reasons why a student might pursue an online master of healthcare administration degree. The future is bright for MHA students, with a predicted growth rate of 28% in the next five years for healthcare managers and leaders, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Also, many healthcare systems now look to the master’s degree as a hiring requirement, so you will be prepared to meet employer and marketplace expectations.

What will I study in the MHA program?

Students will learn through a rigorous and well-rounded curriculum that prepares them for the realities and demands of the healthcare administration industry. They will study bioethics, epidemiology and population health, research methods, contemporary issues in healthcare, policy and legal and economic implications in healthcare.

In 2021, U.S. News & World Report ranked medical and health services manager careers as number four in the top 100 best jobs. And with the BLS reporting an expected 28% increase in jobs in this field over the next ten years, it’s easy to see why many healthcare workers choose to pursue an occupation in this field.

Many healthcare administrators work in an administrative or clinical role in hospitals, clinics, or private practices. They may work in an in-patient or out-patient capacity and may service or manage nursing homes or group medical facilities. The BLS reports that the median annual salary for medical and healthcare services managers is $101,340.

How long will it take to complete the program?

The master of healthcare administration degree consists of 31 total credits which can be completed in as little as 12-18 months, 100% online, and allows you the flexibility for full- and part-time enrollment.

What steps should I take to apply?

To apply to the online healthcare administration master’s program, follow these steps:

  1. Review the website for all MHA and Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University information (background, application, curriculum and requirements).
  2. Complete MHA application (please see links below for application pertaining to your enrolling semester).
  3. Provide official transcripts of all previous academic work attempted beyond high school. Transfer Credit posted on records of other institutions is unacceptable. Send transcripts electronically to admissions@franu.edu or via mail to the Office of Admissions at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University, 5414 Brittany, Baton Rouge, LA 70808.
  4. Applicants are reviewed by the MHA Review Committee and are notified via email from the Office of Admissions.
  5. The Program Director will welcome accepted students via email and provide a schedule for the online orientation prior to the start of classes, including instructions on selecting courses for the first semester.

Do I need to complete the GRE to apply?

No GRE is required to apply to FranU’s online MHA program. If you’ve already taken the GRE and wish to submit your scores, you may still submit them with your application.

How much does the online Master of Healthcare Administration cost?

I am in the military. If I am deployed, can I continue with my degree program?

If you are deployed while a student in the MHA program, you may continue your studies at the deployed site, as the program is 100% online.

FranU is a Catholic university; do I have to be Catholic to be accepted?

No, students do not have to be of the Catholic faith. In many ways, the FranU experience is stronger because of the interaction of students of many faiths learning together.
