The Phlebotomy Training course prepares students for employment in agencies where there is a need to obtain blood specimens for laboratory examinations. At the completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for the National Phlebotomy Certification Exam.
Upon completion of the Phlebotomy Training course, students are eligible to take the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) Examination and to become licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.
Students enrolled in this 11-week course will participate in 8 weeks of classroom instruction (8:00 am - 11:30 am) and 3-weeks of hands-on clinical practice (typically during daytime hours.)
There are no pre-requisites for the Phlebotomy Training course.
Prospective students are required to meet one of the below listed criteria:
Note: Parental/guardian consent will be required for all students under the age of 18.
Additionally, students must meet FranU's health and safety requirements, including current American Heart Association CPR Healthcare Provider Certification.
The cost of this course is $3,304.76 plus the cost of books and uniform (~$160 total). The cost of the course does not include fees charged to register for the ASCP exam.
This course is offered three times a year beginning in January, May, and September.
