On March 27, 2020, Congress and the president enacted the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act, H.R. 748). Among other provisions, the $2 trillion CARES Act provides additional tax relief to many charitable donors in 2020. The 90 percent of donors who do not itemize may take a tax deduction for cash gifts of up to $300 per person or $600 per couple.
