General Biology I

This course is an introduction to the basic concepts underlying the life sciences such as cell structure, enzymology, biochemistry, metabolism, reproduction, cell biology and genetics. In the laboratory component of this course, the students will collect data and perform experiments that demonstrate the principles learned during the lecture. Experiments include exercises in enzyme function, microsopy, cellular repiration, photosynthesis, osmosis and diffusion as well as the exercises in genetics and cell division (mitosis and meiosis).
