Biography

Prof. Simms is an assistant professor of biology, lab coordinator, and the university's Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO). She primarily teaches Microbiology (Biol 2325, Biol 2325L), Biology (Biol 1315), Human Anatomy & Physiology (Biol 2310), Research Problems in Biology/Medicine (Biol 4915), and Practical Experiences in Science (Biol 4920) and is the founder and director of the Laboratory Assistant Biology Stipend (LAB.S.) program. Prof. Simms is an experienced laboratory manager, possessing over 20 years of technical expertise in microbiology, virology, bacterial culture, cell culture, gel electrophoresis, microsatellite genotyping, qRTPCR, gene expression, cDNA synthesis, and DNA sequencing. She has authored or co-authored 11 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 35 conference presentations.
