Biography

Dr. Katrina O’Con serves as a full-time Assistant Professor for the Doctor of Nursing Practice-Nurse Anesthesia Program. She earned her ASN (1993) and BSN (1999) degrees from Northwestern State University, an MSNA (2002) and DNAP (2016) from Texas Wesleyan University, and a PhD (2023) from Texas Woman’s University. Her nursing career spans over 30 years including 23 years of practicing as a CRNA. She has practiced anesthesia in every setting
and has delivered anesthesia care to patients of all ages in and around the central and north Louisiana areas. Dr. O’Con has been involved in education since 2017 as a clinical mentor, faculty, and previously as an assistant program director. Her research focuses on patient safety, opioid-free anesthesia, and wellness among anesthesia providers.

She is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the Louisiana Association of Nurse Anesthetists, serving as the President during 2019-2020. Dr. O’Con was recently honored as an AANA Fellow, being recognized for her professional achievements demonstrating impactful contributions to promoting and advancing nurse anesthesia in clinical practice, education, and professional advocacy. In January 2025, Dr. O’Con was appointed by Gov. Landry to the Louisiana State Board of Nursing Board of Directors and serves the community as the CRNA-member.

She is a proud veteran of the United States Naval Reserve and is married to David O’Con. They have 4 wonderful children.
