Serving in Every Space She Enters

A member of the Class of 2031, biology student Audrey Aucoin is making a change on campus, demonstrating what true servant leadership looks like. 

As a Franciscan Peer Leader, Aucoin supports the FranU community by participating in major campus events such as FranU Day of Service, the Presidential Inauguration and a fundraising event for children with Down syndrome.

My drive to serve comes from a desire to better my community through individual leadership and from my personal belief that we must all love and care for one another,” Aucoin said.

She says her call to serve comes from watching her father’s work ethic.

“Despite also working several jobs, my dad always serves others when possible and goes out of his way to make sure others are taken care of,” she said.

Aucoin's leadership doesn’t stop there. In addition to being a peer leader, she is the Powerlifting public liaison as well as a member of Beta Sigma Mu and the Environmental Care Organization. Next semester, she will also serve as a Student Government Association senator.

Powerlifting is Aucoin’s opportunity to strengthen both her mind and body. Her dream is to become a physical therapist, and she is pursuing that dream via the Biology program’s Accelerated 3+3 Pathway to DPT Studies. By having another athletic club on campus, Powerlifting is Aucoin’s perfect chance to serve students in a different way while improving her own academic and physical skills.

“I have always wanted to see more athletic opportunities at FranU and knew it was something I wanted to be a part of growing, so I volunteered to be the public liaison for the team,” she said. “Powerlifting ties into physical therapy since both involve movement. Powerlifting has also been a great learning experience in terms of learning the core movements and the history behind its origin.”

Aucoin’s work extends off campus and into the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she is involved as a singer, pianist and organist. Her love for music began as a young girl listening to the organ during Mass, moved by music’s ability to deepen one’s faith.

I always found it to be very special how church musicians used their gifts to praise God and knew that was something I would one day want to be a part of. It has strengthened my relationship with my faith by allowing me to serve in the Catholic Church in a unique way while strengthening my community among other Catholics,” Aucoin said.

Across each commitment, Aucoin’s focus remains steady: to use what she’s been given in service of others. It’s a mindset shaped long before college and one that continues to grow through every role she takes on.
