Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University received a $6,000 grant from the Bishop Stanley Joseph Ott "Works of Mercy" Board of Trustees for The Franciscan Experience presented by Bishop Michael G. Duca on June 26 at the Tracy Center.

Gwen Fairchild, director of stewardship for the Diocese of Baton Rouge, said that the Bishop Stanley Ott Works of Mercy Board of Trustees wanted to support The Franciscan Experience because it brings high school juniors and seniors together to learn to serve.

"TFE provides a path for young people to walk in their faith and deepen their understanding of Catholic values. This Experience gives them the opportunity to put their faith into meaningful action, develop leadership skills and learn how to make a positive impact on those around them. The opportunity to reach out to our community and become an example of Christ," stated Fairchild.

The Franciscan Experience is a six-day overnight summer theology institute that unites theological formation, community service, and participation in liturgical and personal prayer to assist participants in their own vocational discernment. Building community is at the heart of TFE, and during the week, participants build relationships not only with each other but also with those whom they serve.

Tyler Trahan, director of TFE, stated, "The most pivotal point of transformation for the participants of TFE is during their encounters with the poor of our community. They are able to experience the Gospel in our time. This grant supports our work in exemplifying the works of mercy and to bring young people closer to Christ."
