October 7, 2026

Brandon DeVold shows that you won’t always have a plan when it comes to your future and to lean on those around you to find a way forward.

“I was at an impasse in my college career. I needed a new start, direction and career path.”

DeVold found what he was looking for at FranU.

My time at FranU taught me that I had a lot to learn and discover about myself. The Marine Corps taught me how to be a leader, but more importantly, FranU taught me how to be of service to others.”

After returning from an 8-month deployment to Iraq in 2008, his newfound understanding of community came into play when he faced a difficult period in his life the following year.

“My mother passed away at the end of my 1st semester of Rad Tech school,” he recalls.

He explained that the support and encouragement he received from his peers, professors and clinical instructors helped him through this tough time and provided him with the encouragement to keep going.

“It truly takes a village, no matter what aspect or stage of life you are in.”

Since graduating in 2011 with a degree in Radiologic Technology, DeVold has used his experience to push himself and dedicate time to serving the greater community.

“I've stepped out of my comfort zone and given a lecture at one of the Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologists annual conventions as well as participated on the Student Leadership and Development panel.”

For the past 14 years, the alumnus has served the Baton Rouge community by working daily in the emergency room at Our Lady of the Lake’s main campus.

DeVold also found purpose through mentoring future radiologic technologists.

I am thankful that God saw fit to put me in a position to help shape the careers and minds of the next generation of Rad Techs.”

His favorite scripture that relates to his career is Colossians 3:23. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

He sees himself, “Just doing the Lord’s work. One patient, one student, one person at a time!”

DeVold’s time at FranU not only prepared him for a successful career but inspired him to become a leader who uplifts others with the same compassion he was once shown.

In recognition of his service and leadership, DeVold was awarded the Hall of Distinction in 2024. He received the Shining Star Alumni Award for his professional achievements, dedication to mentoring future healthcare professionals and commitment to his community.

Brandon is a great role model to everyone he meets, especially the current students,” said Kristen Wells, DeVold’s nominator.

When asked how it felt to receive the award, the alumnus expressed, “Being nominated and awarded the Shining Star Alumni Award was very special.”
