A partnership involving Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University’s Nurse Anesthesia Program and LCMC Health, a leading health system in Louisiana, continues to expand.

FranU has announced its renewal of LCMC Health’s Healthcare Professionals Pipeline Program to include up to 10 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) scholars in the Class of 2025. These scholars will receive $30,000 in tuition assistance in exchange for a one-year work commitment with LCMC Health.

“This program significantly reduces the financial burden of the CRNA Scholars and simultaneously fills the gap in the CRNA workforce at LCMC Health. FranU is thrilled to be able to offer this incredible opportunity to our students,” stated Dr. Callie Dorn, Assistant Program Director FranU Nurse Anesthesia Program.

Currently, Anthony Perez-Maspons, Class of 2024, is the first CRNA Scholar enrolled in the program and recently matched to his first-choice facility, East Jefferson General Hospital.

The partnership with FranU is part of LCMC Health’s Healthcare Professional Pipeline Program, which is a comprehensive initiative and pathway program aimed at cultivating and supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals.

FranU is one of the 14 strategic partnerships with nine distinguished institutions or schools across Louisiana.

The Healthcare Professions Pipeline programs represent a collaborative effort to address the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals, improving access to quality healthcare services, and promoting diversity and inclusivity within the workforce. By establishing these strategic partnerships, LCMC Health aims to foster innovation, knowledge sharing, and the cultivation of talent across various healthcare disciplines.

"Three years ago, we all faced unchartered territory – a global pandemic – and the dedicated work of nurses gained national attention as healthcare workers were deemed heroes," said Dr. Robin McGoey, LCMC Health Chief of Academic Officer and Executive Sponsor for the pipeline programs. "Unfortunately, healthcare heroism came at a great cost – nursing burnout and workforce shortages. As we strive to rebuild our workforce, LCMC Health has developed sustainable solutions by creating pipeline programs to produce quality healthcare workers for our hospitals while easing the financial burden for students."

This May, LCMC Health hosted a "Scholars Match Day" for all HPP Scholars. FranU presented the first CRNA scholar from this program who was matched with an employment position at one of the LCMC Health hospitals.

“LCMC Health’s $30,000 financial assistance for my Nurse Anesthesia Doctoral Program has been invaluable. It has eased my financial burden during the last few semesters, allowing me to concentrate on my studies. I am deeply appreciative of this support and the chance to give back with a year of service,” said Perez-Maspons.

As the Healthcare Professions Pipeline programs continue to evolve, each partnership is taking shape with qualities that are unique to the needs of its academic partners and LCMC Health hospitals.
