A group of Master of Health Administration students recently participated in the International Healthy Aging study abroad program in Paris, France as part of FranU’s mission to develop compassionate and culturally aware healthcare leaders.
This year’s program offered students an immersive look at how another country approaches aging, wellness and elder care through the lens of healthcare systems, community support and policy.
The goal of the program? To broaden students’ understanding of healthy aging through a global perspective. By exploring how another culture supports longevity and wellness, students are able to challenge and expand their views on what it means to age well.
While abroad, the group explored: Innovative healthcare clinics focused on elder care and public health, Preventative health education integrated into routine care across the lifespan, Community-based housing models that promote aging in place and social connection and Educational institutions leading the way in gerontology and wellness innovation.
“By stepping outside of their daily routines and immersing themselves in another culture, students experienced firsthand how community health is shaped by policies, environments and shared values,” said Gerontology Chair Coordinator Kristin Harris.
