This course introduces basic principles of medical genetics, which serves as foundations in the diagnosis of genetic disease and in the performance of genetic testing in the clinical laboratory. Topics include, but are not limited to, the structure and function of neucleic acids, genes and chromosomes, types of mutations and polymorphisms, pattern of inheritance, genetic disorders, and cancer genetics.
