This course provides a detailed study of the cultural, societal, economic, political, and religious background against which Jesus proclaimed the Gospel through parables. The purpose of this course is to immerse students in a hearing of Jesus' parables from the perspective of 1st Century Palestine against which backdrop Jesus proclaimed the Good News of the imminent coming of the Kingdom of God. This course represents a challenge to the Christian believer to radically clarify his/her Christian belief system in the light of Jesus' original, and only authenticated ipsissimi verbum (His words itself).
