Introducing the Sister Martha Ann Abshire Alumni Scholarship

The Alumni Association Board of Directors is pleased to establish this scholarship that will provide tuition assistance for deserving recipients. When planning this opportunity, the Board unanimously agreed that the scholarship should be in honor of a constant source of inspiration for so many FranU students. Alumni and students alike have experienced and continue to benefit from the care, compassion and joyfulness of spirit Sister Martha shows to all who encounter her. It is with great pleasure that the Alumni Association announces the establishment of the Sister Martha Ann Abshire Alumni Scholarship.

The goal of the Alumni Association Board of Directors is to establish an endowed scholarship, providing tuition assistance for FranU students in perpetuity. A beginning investment of $25,000 is needed to endow the Sister Martha Ann Abshire Alumni Scholarship. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to support this scholarship named in honor of our friend, Sister Martha Ann Abshire.

Blue - ($50/year or $4.17/month)

Gold - ($100/year or $8.34/month)

Wolf Pack - ($250/year or $20.84/month)

Friends of Francis - ($500/year or $41.67/month)

About Sister Martha


A Cajun girl from Crowley, LA, Martha Ann Abshire was called to the religious life and joined the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady in 1967. Called to a life of service, Sister Martha Ann graduated from Our Lady of the Lake Nursing School and worked as a Registered Nurse at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge and then Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette. Throughout her ministry Sister Martha Ann has selflessly served. In her ministry in hospitals, in the Mission in Haiti, on the General Council and on the campus of FranU. Sister Martha Ann Abshire’s Franciscan leadership and servant’s heart captivate all whom she encounters.
