Our Franciscan Core Values of Service, Humility, Justice, Joyfulness of Spirit, and Respect and Love of All Life are the heart of our University. As Franciscan servant leaders of all faiths, we must always strive to be “instruments of peace” in all the activities of our daily life.
When the nation, state and local community are suffering from a broad range of illnesses, including physical, social and spiritual maladies, we as a Franciscan community of faith-filled citizens are reminded of our call to respect the sanctity of all life.
The founders of our University, the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady, today are ministering in 17 countries and are serving people of many cultures, religious faith and ethnic origins, while paying special attention to those most in need. The uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, together with current social and political tensions, compel us, now more than ever, to embrace and to live our core values. In so doing, let us call to mind the words of St. Francis to his brothers, “While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it even more in your heart.”
Our lives are filled with turmoil, but let us hold fast to the fact that we are all brothers and sisters in our loving God. May we treat each other with respect and dignity due every human being so that we can truly witness the peace we hold in our hearts.
Blessings,
