The Franciscan Experience is a 6-day overnight summer theology institute in Baton Rouge, LA that unites theological formation, service in the community, and participation in liturgical and personal prayer to assist participants in their own vocational discernment. With St. Francis as their guide, participants will take up the call of rebuilding the Church as missionary disciples. Building community is at the heart of TFE, and during these 6 days, participants can build relationships not only with each other, but with those whom they serve and with faculty, staff, and college mentors from Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University.

Participants can expect fruitful times of prayer, encouragement in small groups, new opportunities of service, daily Mass, time spent before the Blessed Sacrament, interactive and engaging speakers, greater knowledge of the faith, Christ-centered friendships, and so much more!

Advancing in the 3 pillars allows participants to grow into the best version of themselves — to be more passionate Catholics and servant leaders. At TFE, these 3 pillars work together to help participants discern their vocations in the midst of a supportive community.
Being Catholic is both an identity and practice. The Church’s rich spiritual tradition offers powerful ways to encounter Christ personally and as a community. At TFE, the encounter with Christ in the sacraments and in personal prayer lays the foundation for everything else in the Christian life.
Theology is not only an academic subject but also is a way of using faith and reason to grow in greater knowledge and love of God. This knowledge and love can then fuel a passion and commitment to be witnesses of Christ. At TFE, theology teaches you not only what the Church believes but why she believes it as well as how it makes a difference in the world.
God’s call to St. Francis at the church of San Damiano was, “Go and rebuild my Church.” Through service, not only are we fulfilling God’s call, but we also grow in virtue. Service is an essential part of discerning vocations. At TFE, service is a key component to becoming missionary disciples in our local community.
